Humanity is in trouble if we don’t change our metrics. We’ve heard and likely used the phrase “you get what you measure”. We’ve certainly gotten efficiency. But, at what cost? Hear what the world could be like if we shifted what we measure.

How many times have you asked your child something, and that’s all they say?
“How was your day?”
“Why did you do that?”
“What’s wrong?”
And the answer is… “I don’t know.”🤷🏻♀️
As parents, we want to help. We want our kids to talk to us, to trust us, to open up when something’s bothering them. But when all we hear is “I don’t know,” it can feel frustrating and even a little heartbreaking.
Kids don’t always say “I don’t know” because they don’t know.
Sometimes they say it because they’re scared.
Scared they’ll get in trouble.
Scared we won’t understand.
Scared they’ll be judged.
That’s why it’s so important to make sure our kids feel safe to talk to us.
When they know we’re listening—not just to their words, but to their hearts—they’ll start to share more. When we don’t interrupt, don’t jump in with a lesson, don’t get mad right away… they’ll start to feel like it’s okay to be honest.
It takes time. It takes patience. But it’s worth it.
So how do we do that?
By showing them we care more about understanding than fixing.
By just being there, even in silence.
The more safe they feel, the more they’ll trust us with their thoughts.

📌 Ensuring Safety at Home - What Every Parent Needs to Know 📌
The recent news story out of Kansas, where a babysitter discovered a man hiding under a child’s bed, is both shocking and deeply unsettling. It’s a reminder that as parents, we must constantly be vigilant about the safety of our children—both inside and outside our homes. While it may sound like a scenario you’d only hear in a crime drama, the truth is, the world can be a lot more unpredictable than we’d like to think.
How safe is your home really? We trust that our kids are safe with caregivers, at school, or even in their own rooms—but incidents like this prove that danger can lurk anywhere. While this situation may seem extreme, it highlights something every parent should take seriously: the safety of our children is always at risk, even in the places we think are the safest.
So, what do we do about it? First and foremost, we must talk to our kids. Have you had that conversation about safety, not just from strangers but about understanding their surroundings, knowing how to recognize danger, and feeling empowered to speak up if something doesn’t feel right?
The world can be unpredictable, and we can’t always control everything. But we can control how prepared our children are to protect themselves. It’s about teaching them the difference between safe and unsafe situations, and giving them the confidence to act when something feels off. We can’t always be there to protect them, but we can raise them to be aware and ready.
